Revealing the History of Comic Books
Even with the invention of such high technology and electronic gaming, comic books still carry the same importance as they did around thirty years back. Comic book collectors belong to all age groups and they will be simply addicted to buying and preserving them; the one major thing that keeps the reputation of comic books high is they are not complicated at all. Today I will tell you where actually comic books came from and why millions of people are busy collecting them for years but still they think the collection is not complete.
Basically, there are two versions behind the story of comic books; some people believe that the comic books came from Egypt where the Egyptians used to make paintings and art of the walls in the very early days; comic books came from there. The second group of people believes that the comic books actually came from comic strips. Comic strips can be seen in newspapers that are just 3 to 4 frames short skits. Well, both the theories sound totally believable to me but I think that the Egyptian people actually bought this concept in the world.
1896 was the year when America first got to experience comic books. This was the time when different publishing houses were gathering comic strips from various newspapers and putting them together to form a single book of the entire story. When these comic books were launched; the sales went amazingly high. This pushed the publishers to come up with new stories of their own and this is when different comic characters started coming into existence. The comic books that we are familiar of today carry a soft cover and are basically in a glossy magazine format; these comic books gained their fame through 1930s. This was the time when Action Comics brought in Superman and made comic addicts go crazy. Superman gained so much popularity that many other characters were born with time that are still among us and many of them can be also seen in Hollywood movies too; such as Superman itself.
Today comic books are spread in different subjects and different genres like real life, crime, fantasy, sci-fi, etc. The format that comic books carried back then has changed a lot today and it continues to change with time. You can even find graphic novels today that are much thicker; they carry more mature content compared to traditional comic books.
